Whilst the Napthine government is steaming ahead with plans to turn Westernport into the next industrial hub, the Victorian National Parks Association and our supporter group Westernport and Peninsula Protection Council have released their timely study into potential oil spills in Westernport.

Our thanks to VNPA and WPPC for their tenacity in pursuing this issue. It is THE outstanding issue for the future of Westernport. Yes it might already be a port, but Hastings currently handles less than 200 ships per year. The Napthine government plans are predicated on Hastings port servicing over 3000 ship visits per year.....a fifteen fold increase on current numbers!

And then there are the 3000 or more truck trips per day and massive rail infrastructure to support this mind boggling growth in ship numbers.
