Dirty, old, bloated shipping industry

The Times  gives the shipping industry a well deserved poke for its unashamedly outmoded and polluting ways.

There will be 60% overcapacity in shipping for the next 5 years with too many newly constructed ships flooding the market…….of course those new big ships were the supposed reason for the rush for channel deepening.

Hey, maybe we didn’t need to rush after all? Spending the $1 billion we frittered away on dredging might have served us better if it had been spent instead on a few more hospitals, or preparing our coastline for climate change, or renewable energy etc. etc.?
