Students are Wild about Port Phillip Bay

The Blue Wedges exhibition of Posters from a State-wide schools art competition ‘Wild About Port Phillip Bay was opened by the Kingston City Council’s Junior Mayor, Narida Ear at Mordialloc Motor Yacht Club on Saturday 26th August 2006, with over 100 people attending. Narida said how proud she was to be opening the event on behalf of so many of her fellow students.

The Blue Wedges exhibition of Posters from a State-wide schools art competition ‘Wild About Port Phillip Bay was opened by the Kingston City Council’s Junior Mayor, Narida Ear at Mordialloc Motor Yacht Club on Saturday 26th August 2006, with over 100 people attending. Narida said how proud she was to be opening the event on behalf of so many of her fellow students.

 

 

There were nine prize-winners and six entries that received High Commendations. Winning entries came from Malvern Primary, Kew Primary, The Peninsula School Mt. Eliza, Shelford Girls Grammar Caulfield, Elsternwick Primary, Patterson Lakes Primary, Williamstown High and Caroline Chisholm Catholic College Braybrook.

 

Winners will have the opportunity to go on an adventure with Polperro Dolphin Swims or receive a cash prize.

 

The judges, respected local artists Mr. Craig Forster, Mrs. Julianna Turcu and Ms Diane Hamilton said: “The quality of the paintings students submitted was high, but more importantly shows a knowledge of the issues besetting the Bay that is sophisticated, intelligent and deeply felt. Let us trust that those who are capable of preserving and supporting our children’s love of the Bay see and hear their message”.

 

On behalf of the Blue Wedges Coalition, President Jenny Warfe said: “The sincerity of feeling is evident in these wonderful artworks. I only wish we had the choice to vote for more people on November 25th who showed this level of commitment to the preservation of our wonderful Port Phillip Bay

 

The Mordialloc exhibition will be open 12pm-6pm until Thursday 24th August, and will then move to the Gasworks Hall Gallery, 21 Graham St Albert Park, from Tuesday 5th to Sunday 24th September from 9 am – 5 pm. (Melways 57 D4). At the Gasworks opening event at 6pm on Tuesday 5th September prize-winners will be acknowledged and receive their prizes. A People’s Choice award will also be awarded at the conclusion of the event.  

Competition sponsors, the Blue Wedges Coalition, is a non-profit coalition of community groups working to protect the environment of Port Phillip Bay.
