Art Competition

Art Competition: 'Wild About Port Phillip Bay' 
 
Blue Wedges, a non-profit coalition of community groups working to protect the environment of Port Phillip Bay, has launched a major Art Competition titled 'Wild About Port Phillip Bay' and is inviting entries from all Primary and Secondary School students. 
The aim of this project is to further educate people about Port Phillip Bay.
Any two dimensional media is acceptable including computer images (and optionally may contain words).  Size is limited to a maximum A3 size (300x420mm) we prefer entries to be laminated.
Entries close 30 July, 2006.
Posters submitted for exhibtion will promote awareness of the natual wonders of Port Phillip Bay, and the threats it faces. The exhibtion will encourage the wider community to visit and appreciate the unique environment of Port Phillip Bay.

  • People - Aborigines and others
  • History
  • Seasons
  • Why we value it and why we put it at risk
Who can participate..

 
We are inviting individual students or school groups from across Victoria. No specific level of competence is required.

When and where will we hold exhibitions..
 

 
Exhibtions will be held during August 2006 at Mordialloc Yacht Club, and during September 2006 at Gasworks Hall Gallery, Albert Park.
 

 
What we offer..

 
A certificate and prizes for winning entries in each category. Prizes include cash, vouchers, and dolphin swims. Also an opportunity to participate in an exhibition of works, and to sell works at the exhibtion for a nominates price (Blue Wedges is to receive 30% of proceeds from the sale of works).


 
Judging of the competition will be in five categories..

 
  1. Junior Primary - Years 1 - 4
  2. Senior Primary - Years 5 & 6
  3. Junior Secondary - Years 7 & 8
  4. Middle Secondary - Years 9 & 10
  5. Senior Secondary - Years 11 & 12
Conditions of Entry..

 
  1. Entrants may submit only one work.
  2. Posters must be submitted as hard copy, no bigger than 300mm x 420mm (A3).
  3. Entries may be any 2-dimensional media or prints of digital or photographic compositions or collages.
  4. Words may optionally be included in the image but is not a requirement.
  5. Entries should be laminated if possible.
  6. For postage please ensure that the entry is well protected between two sturdy pieces of cardboard, or rolled in a tube no smaller than 10cm in diameter.
  7. All entries must be clearly labelled on the reverse side with the entrant's name, name of the school and contact details plus the title of the work and/or series.
  8. Blue Wedges Inc. reserves the right to use, display, publish and promote the work of any entrant in conjunction with the aims of the exhibition. However the copyright in the work shall be retained by the artist.
  9. After the close of the exhibition entrants must collect their work from Port Phillip EcoCentre (9am to 5pm Mon-Fri) by 10th December, 2006. Blue Wedges Inc and Port Phillip EcoCentre will not be responsible for work left uncollected after this date.
  10. Blue Wedges Inc and Port Phillip EcoCentre will not be responsible for any loss or damage whatsoever, and however caused, to any work while in its custody.
  11. Entries close on 30th July, 2006 and must be delivered, at no cost to the organisers, to Port Phillip EcoCentre, 55A Blessington St, St Kilda 3182 telephone 03 9534 0670.

Judging..

 

 
A panel of three will judge entries according to the relevance of the message portrayed and the quality of art. First, Second and Thrird prizes will be awarded in each category. There will also be a 'Peoples Choice' (Certificate awarded).
